Barbados, an Incredible Low-cost Destination You Should Visit

Barbados is an island country in the Lesser Antilles. Barbados lies to the east of Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Barbados’ people are known as Bajans or Barbadians and its capital and most populous city are Bridgetown, which is also the country’s largest city.

The city has a population of 284,996 people, the majority of whom are of African descent. Even though Barbados is classified as an Atlantic Island, it is considered part of the Caribbean for historical and cultural reasons and is recognized as one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations due to its historical and cultural significance.

The island was inhabited by Tainos until the conquest of the Spanish Empire in the 15th century because it was there that Christopher Columbus landed on his first voyage of discovery in the 15th century. The English made the island a colony of the United Kingdom in the 18th century, and they maintained their influence over the island for four centuries. As a result of this situation, the country was unable to become independent until November 30, 1966, when its people declared independence and the country was admitted to the United Nations Organization and the Commonwealth of Nations. From 1966 to 2021, Barbados was a constitutional monarchy with a parliament, with Queen Elizabeth II as head of state and the Governor General as her representative.

On November 30, 2021, Barbados became a parliamentary republic after a transitional period, and Sandra Mason was appointed by the national parliament as the new Head of State after she was elected by the people.
